Meet Wichita Chiropractor, Dr. Barbara Quadlander
I can't imagine growing up without chiropractic care! Playing and working on a farm gave me my fair share of spills and aches. Mom would regularly load us up and drive the 38 miles to "Uncle Doc's" office for an adjustment. It still takes me a few seconds to think of his real name, Roy Neal, as everyone in my dad's family just called him "Uncle Doc". I remember feeling so much better after an adjustment that I would sleep all the way home.
During college I trained to be in the medical arena as a medical technologist with a degree in microbiology as well. Twelve years of working in a laboratory setting and two years as a pharmacy tech later, I was tired of "being out of the loop" with people. I never knew what happened to our patients, had no idea if they got well or not. I was also appalled at the number of drugs being prescribed. In 1988 several friends were either in chiropractic school or seriously considering going back to school. Their excitement clicked with my childhood experiences being treated by our great uncle chiropractor and I realized that I'd found what I had been looking for...a way to be directly involved with the treatment and healing process but not handing out drugs.
I was thrilled to be accepted into Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City and dove into training for my new profession in January of 1990. The college degrees and years spent as a medical technologist and pharmacy tech gave me a great background for chiropractic courses. Three years flew by and I graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1993.
My goal is to provide each patient with gentle chiropractic treatment that not only relieves pain but also gives one tools to stay out of pain. My adjustments draw from a variety of techniques that are tailored to each individual patient. Recommendations for a healthier life include nutrition, exercise, or stress reduction. In the last few years I've finished 300 plus hours of acupuncture training to be able to add another method of healing for patients.
One of the most exciting acupuncture treatments I've given so far was for a patient with a breech baby who was scheduled for a c-section the next week. I used a special Chinese acupuncture technique on only two acupuncture points and her healthy baby boy was born naturally and in the correction position within a week!
I am not about to put up with pain whether it's from sore muscles or spinal subluxations! I'm adjusted regularly, usually 2-3 times per month depending on what has been going on in my life. Travel, heavy exercise and stress are factors that cause me to require more frequent adjustments. Lunch hours are spent at the gym lifting weights or doing a cardio workout 3-4 times a week. Yoga is very important for keeping me calm and focused; I practice at home and try to get in several classes a week. Recently I’ve been working towards obtaining my RYT500 yoga teacher certification.
